BHFL started the way football is supposed to start — with people showing up to play.
Back in the summer, as the weather transitioned into fall, a group of cousins and friends began meeting up in Bal Harbour to play football. Most days, it was two-hand touch. When it rained, it turned into tackle. No refs. No uniforms. Just competition.
After a short break, everything picked back up on a random Shabbat in October. During the day, training was happening — routes, footwork, and catching. Once that ended, word spread that a real football game was happening at the field. More people showed up than expected, and the game was on.
From that point on, BHFL became a weekly thing.
Today, BHFL plays almost every Shabbat at 4:00 PM at the Bal Harbour field. Games are usually 7-on-7, but the number of players can change depending on who shows up. Teams are drafted before each game and are led by their quarterbacks, who act as the team leaders on and off the field.
There are no age divisions in BHFL. Players of different ages compete together, keeping the games competitive, balanced, and real. Respect, effort, and love for football matter more than anything else.
BHFL isn’t about trophies or hype — it’s about showing up, competing, and building something with the people around you.
That’s BHFL.
